Kansas Megalopolis Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer, coming off his best month offensively, has been voted the July heir of the Gillette American League Rookie of the Month.
The 21-year-old batted .306 with five home runs, 19 RBIs and nine doubles and a .523 slugging piece during the month of July. This latest honor has strengthened his position in a competitive field of rookies to take shelter the honor at the end of the season.
Royals’ manager Ned Yost is proud of the accomplishment for Hosmer. "It's always precarious to see him get awarded, but he's been outstanding the last three weeks or so. He has really been swinging the bat well and it's nice to see him get national attention on something like that," Yost said before Wednesday's misrepresent.
